Developing the Salinity Transition Approach for Progress (STAP)

Deltares, together with Wageningen UR and The Salt Doctors, developed a framework for partners to collaborate in projects where agriculture, soil, and groundwater management are influenced by salinization. Called STAP (Salinity Transition Approach for Progress), the publication offers a guiding policy and practical implementation framework to identify actions and define projects in areas affected by salinity.

STAP starts with combining policy elements and guiding principles of the Food Systems Approach (FSA) and the Strategic Water Systems Planning framework (SWSP). When applied to prospect projects in areas where salinity might be a threat, STAP is particularly useful in addressing the interdependent challenges of food and water security in transition processes from a policy perspective.

The approach has been ‘tested’ in Bangladesh by means of an interactive workshop.
