Livestock.Africa: A Game Changer for African Livestock Information Sharing

We are excited to announce the launch of a groundbreaking initiative: Livestock.Africa. This revolutionary digital platform is the result of a partnership between SNV Netherlands Development Organisation and the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), through the ICSIAPL Project that is funded by the European Union and the Government of the Netherlands and NEADAP Project. Through providing access to project information, training material and other tools it empowers stakeholders in the ruminant livestock sector across Africa.
More than just information: A living library
Livestock.Africa isn't just a static repository of facts. It is a living library that continuously expands, offering a wealth of knowledge resources long after individual projects have wrapped up.
Launching the platform is a collaborative effort welcoming contributions from various ruminant livestock projects across the continent. Here, knowledge has no borders, empowering stakeholders including farmers with the tools they need to excel in a dynamic industry.
The importance of technical and market knowledge in boosting livestock production is undeniable. However valuable insights and learnings from past projects often disappear when those projects end. The platform addresses a critical gap in the livestock sector—the loss of valuable insights and learning once projects conclude.
By curating and providing unlimited online access to this collective pool of knowledge, Livestock.Africa ensures that the technical and marketing knowledge essential for improving livestock production is preserved and accessible.
What you will find on Livestock.Africa
The platform offers comprehensive resources, interactive learning modules, community engagement opportunities, and a focus on sustainable practices. The impact of Livestock.Africa is transformative, empowering farmers, enhancing extension services, and supporting policymakers with evidence-based strategies.
Currently the platform features leading projects like the Integrated & Climate Smart Innovations for Agro-pastoralist economies and Landscapes in Kenya’s ASALs (ICSIAPL), the Initiative for Sustainable Landscapes (ISLA), Netherlands East African Dairy Partnership (NEADAP), Kenya Market-led Dairy Programme (KMDP) and many more. This list is constantly growing, ensuring a rich and ever-expanding resource base.

Get Involved!
Livestock.Africa makes livestock knowledge resources accessible to everyone, everywhere in Africa. It is an invitation to explore, learn, and contribute to the collective growth of the livestock sector.
We urge readers to delve into the rich resources at Livestock.Africa. For projects interested in featuring their work on this transformative platform, please reach out to hello@livestock.africa or victor@cellfam.com
