“Making food systems analysis work” is the title of the second module on the food systems e-course. The second plenary session of the 2025 food systems e-course held on 5 March 2025.

Two guest speaker were invited and made presentations. The first presentation was by Helena Posthumus, Senior food systems and policy advisor at Wageningen Social and Economic Research (WSER). 

Helena is program director of DeSIRA-LIFT (Leveraging the 'Development Smart Innovation through Research in Agriculture' Initiative for Agri-Food Systems Transformation). Her expertise includes food systems, agricultural innovation systems, adoption and scaling of innovations, sustainable agriculture, value chain development, impact evaluations and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL). Helena has over 20 years of experience as an interdisciplinary researcher, consultant, trainer and evaluator in the areas of food systems, sustainable land use, international development and agricultural policy. She is also one of the co-authors of the Food System Decision-Support Toolbox. Helena will dive deeper into the value of systems thinking and undergoing a food systems analysis to better understand a food system.

Bram Peters, Food Systems Programme Facilitator at the Environmental Change Institute (ECI) at the University of Oxford, made the second presentation.

Bram contributes to furthering the global learning and knowledge brokering agenda for the FoSTr programme and facilitates strategic engagement among ForeSight4Food's diverse range of stakeholders. He will share his lessons learned and experiences of using the food systems approach in Myanmar during his time at ICCO, Cordaid.
