Driving Change: NEADAP's Side Sessions
NEADAP's commitment to fostering sustainable dairy development in East Africa was further underscored through the organization of three insightful side sessions during the conference:
1. Rumen8: A Powerful New Tool For Diet Formulation of dairy cows in East Africa
One of the highlights of NEADAP's participation was the introduction of the new version of Rumen8 the tool to calculate adequate and balanced feed rations. This software has the potential to revolutionize the way East African dairy farmers manage their cattle's nutrition. The session provided a detailed insight into Rumen8's capabilities and how it can help improve milk production and overall cattle health.
2. Dairy Sustainability Assessment Tool (DSAT): A Web-Based Revolution
The second side session showcased the web-based version of the Dairy Sustainability Assessment Tool (DSAT). This tool is designed to help dairy farmers assess the sustainability of their operations, offering a comprehensive understanding of the ecological and economic impacts of their practices. Its online availability opens doors for more East African farmers to adopt sustainable practices and improve their livelihoods.
3. Bridging the Gap: Year-Round Feed Availability
The third session focused on the critical issue of year-round feed availability, a challenge faced by many dairy farmers in the region. Attendees engaged in lively discussions, sharing experiences, and exploring strategies to ensure a consistent supply of quality feed for their cattle, thereby bolstering milk production and economic stability.
The Voices of Young Farmers: A Vital Perspective
One of the most poignant moments of the conference came from young farmers from Kenya and Uganda, who shared their experiences and insights. They discussed their innovative approaches to handling issues related to land availability and ownership. These young entrepreneurs also unveiled strategies for capitalizing on feed-related opportunities, providing valuable inspiration for the future of the dairy industry in East Africa.
