With the NL-CGIAR Senior Expert Programme II (SEPII), senior researchers affiliated with Dutch research institutions will have the opportunity to contribute to research by CGIAR, the world's largest research partnership for a food secure future. They will collaborate with international research initiatives working on issues such as strengthening food security in countries with long-term food crises and analysing forgotten crops.

In de eerste helft van 2024 heeft Netherlands Food Partnership namens 95 Nederlandse bedrijven, kennisinstellingen en maatschappelijke organisaties een oproep gedaan aan het nieuwe kabinet, genaamd 'Nederlandse aanpak wereldwijde voedselzekerheid werkt!'. De inhoud van deze oproep is door een grote groep van de 95 ondertekenaars verder uitgewerkt in 'Nederlandse aanpak wereldwijde voedselzekerheid werkt beter door samenwerking!'. Deze uitwerking is gelanceerd op World Food Day 2024.

BRIDGE+ is the second phase of the BRIDGE project, which began in 2018 and has achieved significant success in improving the productivity, quality, and marketability of dairy products in Ethiopia. The new phase will build upon these successes and expand its scope and impact. The Dairy Farm School Initiative, part of the BRIDGE+ project, aims to scale up LC-focused dairy extension model, which promotes peer-to-peer learning among farmers. This collaborative environment not only fosters knowledge sharing but also improves market linkages and access to essential inputs.

In Baringo County's arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL), two dairy cooperativesSabatia Farmers Cooperative Society Limited (Sabatia FCS) and Mumberes Cooperativeare leading the charge in revolutionizing the local dairy industry. These cooperatives have long been central to the livelihoods of dairy farmers in the region, providing crucial support from production to marketing. However, a key factor contributing to their recent success is an innovative approach to logistics and quality control, in which local youths play a pivotal role.

School feeding programmes play a critical role in encouraging the poorest families to send their children  sons, and especially their daughters  to school. Once children are in the classroom, school meals ensure they are well nourished and ready to learn.  The importance of school feeding is well established and widely recognized. Providing nutritious food at school is good for educational achievement, for nutrition and health, for inclusion of girls and of the most vulnerable children and, if done right, for local economies.

School milk in Ethiopia: Toward a grassroots dynamic

Consistent access to high-quality feed including forage is crucial for the competitiveness of the dairy sector in East Africa. Use of quality forages in balanced rations can reduce the feed cost for the famer, increase margin above feed cost and reduce enteric methane emission intensity per Liter of milk. Milk processors and dairy cooperatives should, advice farmers to adopt improved forage production (Forage Finder), to conserve forage for the dry season and to feed balanced rations to their dairy cows. This is in their interest because it will reduce seasonal milk supply fluctuations, thereby improving operational profits.
