IN-FEAST Partnership Kick-Off

On July 9th we kicked off the Insect Farming East Africa (IN-FEAST) Partnership! This Partnership, consisting of the Association for Insect Farming and Its Products (IFIP), New Generation Nutrition and Fair & Sustainable, has the objective to advance the sustainable growth of the insect sector in Kenya and East Africa. NFP is happy to announce that it will support the Partnership for three years.

In these three years, the partners together will undertake efforts to fulfill its mission: increasing the use of insects as input for animal feed in East Africa through developing the insect industry and addressing key contemporary challenges. For insect products to become a truly viable alternative for more conventional inputs, the products need to be available at a reliable quality, a sufficient and consistent volume, and an affordable price.

To that end the Partnership will help to empower East Africa’s Insect Farming sector and its stakeholders. Its vision is to create an inclusive and efficient sector for insect-derived animal feed, fostering collaboration within the sector and ensuring long-term sustainability. Through developing the insect industry, the Partnership aims to close nutrient cycles, enhancing food security and create economic opportunities.

As such, the IN-FEAST Partnership will focus on three major objectives that have been prioritised by insect farming sector stakeholders:

1. Improving the collaboration among stakeholders;

2. Advancing skills and capacities of insect farmers; and

3. Enhancing access to finance for insect farming businesses.

As part of this common agenda, the first year will see a.o. the further professionalisation of the IFIP Association, the development of easy-to-access learning library, identification of insect farming best practices and a mapping of the investment landscape for insect farming.

At the time of writing, conversations are ongoing with an both and additional Knowledge as well as a Financial partner. We are confident about welcoming them to the IN-FEAST Partnership soon to have all the necessary competencies on board to effectively support the sustainable growth of the insect farming industry in East Africa.
